The hamlet of De Winton is a tiny little place with a population of less than 100, located South of Calgary, near Hwy 2A and the train tracks. To me it's known for spotty cell phone coverage and to people in the area it's the location of a community hall that has been rebuilt twice due to fires. It was named after Sir Francis de Winton, a British Army officer (1835-1901),
Historically "De Winton" was an area located between the south part of Calgary and the Okotoks overpass. It collectively described all the acreages and properties within those geographical boundaries. It had a very nice postal code “T0L 0X0” or “T0L hugs and kisses”.
Several years ago, the residents of this area received new mailboxes and with that came new street addresses, a new community, and new postal codes. Most addresses are now part of the community of “Foothills” and the postal code starts with T1S.
