24 Nov Christmas in Okotoks
There’s something about Christmas in a small town. Here in Okotoks, the Christmas season kicked off last week. The Light Up Okotoks Festival began the holiday season with wagon rides, carolers, and fireworks at Lineham Park. There are only a few weeks left until Christmas, and there is no shortage of holiday events happening around town.
A great community is made up of caring people that are willing to give a little to improve the lives of others. A great testament to this spirit of giving is The Tree of Warmth located at the Okotoks Art Gallery. Scarves, gloves and toques are collected each year to decorate the tree until December 13th. All the items are then distributed to local charities to be passed on to those that need them most. The Tree of Warmth is a great way to teach your kids an early lesson in giving from the heart.
Looking for a new tree this year? The 3rd Annual Avenue of Trees is happening at the Okotoks Recreation Centre. Patrons are invited to view a large section of beautifully decorated trees that have been donated by local businesses and clubs. You can bid on your favorite tree and take part in the excitement at the live auction on December 6th. Be sure to get a photo with Santa and take some time to check out the vendors at the Market Square. All proceeds are dedicated to promoting health and wellness in the foothills through the Sheep River Health Trust.
The Okotoks Art Gallery also gives residents and visitors a great reason to shop local. Need to find the perfect gift for someone who has everything? You are sure to find something unique at the Spirit of Christmas Market. From November 14th to December 20th, the gallery is hosting dozens of local artisans. Shop for holiday ornaments, jewelry, cards, and artwork. Make a list, and check it twice, but don’t forget to spoil yourself, too!
